Woolacombe Trip Report Oct 2011
The main feature of our autumn trip to Woolacombe this year was too many waves! This made it hard work to paddle out any distance, whilst the stiff onshore breeze took the tops off the waves too early. Fortunately, the mushy surf was big enough to provide some entertainment, especially on Friday (see video).
The tide times were not ideal either, which meant that a morning session was only feasible on the Sunday.
The sea was still pleasantly warm, and the sun popped out occasionally to brighten the day and clear the early morning mist, whilst the rain largely stayed away.
We stayed in caravans at the Twitchen House site which were more comfortable than the campsite earlier in the year (and less likely to get blown down!)
A pleasant Saturday night curry in Ilfracombe supplemented the usual lunchtime Fudgies' pasty diet, and helped to replace all those calories burnt off fighting through the surf.
