Hastings - meet Wales!
picture
By Micky Durrant

On the 8th, 9th and 10th of august 24 members of Hastings canoe club travelled up to the river Tryweryn in the north of Wales.

On the Friday they paddled the lower Tryweryn to accustom the beginners to moving water. This went very successfully and everyone enjoyed it despite the constant rain.

The Saturday we did the lower again, it was still raining a lot and as a result the river was slightly higher, but everyone showed a big improvement from the day before. Unfortunately we lost two sets of paddles and a boat on the lower; luckily the boat was recovered some distance down river.

Also on Saturday some of the more experienced paddlers paddled the upper Tryweryn to experience more of a challenge to their paddling skills. By Sunday a lot of people were tired and headed home, but due to the rain over the weekend we got the chance to go and paddle another welsh river, the Llugwy.

The upper section was paddled by both experienced and less experienced paddlers and the lower section was paddled only by the experienced paddlers. It was enjoyed by all that took part.

The social members on the trip also had plenty to do, as well as walking and trying to catch up with paddlers at certain points along the river to take photos most of them enjoyed a taster session of rafting on the upper Tryweryn.
