06/01/08 another fun day messing about in boats on the beach!

The forecast on our beach = Swell 5.5ft @ 13sec ... which translated into an average wave face of 3ft with periodic 4ft fun! P.S. for those that haven't figured it out yet ... the forecast swell height refers to the swell read by the buoy out in the Channel and NOT the anticipated wave face on the beach ... On our beach the swell height never reflects the actual wave face size on the beach - even with a wave period of 13secs! We would probably need 23sec plus to get a wave face the same height as the forecast swell - which will never happen! What the forecast gives us however is an indication of the likelihood of waves on our beach ... the forecast for this day could have delivered anything between 2ft to max 4ft wave faces ... but a wave of some sort was guaranteed. |
